Case Studies
The following is not a full comprehensive list of all the websites I’ve ever built or done work on, but rather, a list of notable highlights in my web dev career so far, and what I learned from these instances.
Websites built in WordPress
CeSI was my former employer, and this was the first full website I was ever tasked to build. Rather than using WordPress’ native website designer, I had the luxury of using Oxygen, a highly versatile and customizable website building plugin.
CTC is another website I built using Oxygen. The client wished for their new website to strongly resemble the older version of their company site. As a result, my options for visual design were far more limited than I was used to. Thankfully, using Oxygen made it far easier to manage in terms of functionality.
Websites maintained in WordPress
AAA is not a website I built, but I really wish I had gotten the chance to rebuild it myself. Mainly for my own sanity. I found its backend to not only be incredibly outdated, but extremely convoluted. I used to dread anytime the client would want me to make even small structural changes, because it would inevitably end with me fighting for my life against raw PHP and JavaScript just to move a single button to another div element without completely breaking everything beyond repair. Working with this website taught me many valuable lessons in patience and perseverance.
PSPT was the first client I worked with who had an active blog and newsletter that needed frequent updates. Part of my job was to regularly assemble and publish their posts. But I also implemented a system for recommending other articles and blog posts based on relevant keywords.
Websites built in other CMS's
AK Art & Calligraphy was one of the first website I built in Wix. My opinion on Wix after building multiple websites is overall positive, but there are a lot of cons to those pros. While I found the learning curve to be easier than WordPress (it is designed to be a lot more layman friendly), it came at the cost of feeling far more limited in its functionality. I quickly had to get used to having way less freedom in terms of visual design. And while it can be convenient to have a hosting platform with all the bells and whistles of website management already built into it, I find the prices that it asks for that convenience to be atrocious. I’d only recommend it for laymen who know absolutely nothing about web dev and are willing to pay a steep price for it.
Zena Consulting is the first and only website I’ve built in GoDaddy website builder. And I’d like to keep it that way. This CMS is far and away the worst I’ve ever worked in. Not only is it extremely limiting in terms of visual design, but its backend is needlessly convoluted and barely functional. I had to relearn some lessons in patience while working with this thing.
